Managing Your Marketing Fears

Managing Your Marketing Fears

Here at Design Moves, we understand the fears of marketing first hand. When venturing into business, thoughts such as “it will cost too much,” or “it’s too risky,” often come into play. A well-crafted marketing strategy will bring excellent results in branding, customer retention, and conversation, and could very well be the risk you needed to take. One thing we all must realize is that we cannot let fear deter us from reaching our ultimate goals. Instead, we must turn those fears into achievements. Here are a few tips to help you get past those paralyzing marketing fears.

Even bad decisions

move you forward.

If you so happen to make a bad move, it shows you that you are going the wrong way. You still have the opportunity to turn around and take a different step in the right direction. There are no guarantees in any decision you may make, and that’s the beauty of it. Things are continually changing, and you always have time to learn something new. If you have an original idea, start small, see what can be determined, and analyze the results. Try new things all the time, then learn and try them again with refinements. Trying something is always better than doing nothing.

Making mistakes is OK.

Greatness doesn’t happen overnight. Author, motivational speaker, and salesman Zig Ziglar once said, “you don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” We have to be OK with making mistakes. We must also revel in our mistakes because it is our first steps for improvement.

There is more than one

way to market.

When you stumble across a strategy that works, it’s okay to use it for a while, but also remember to try new approaches and do things differently. There is more than one way to market. Make a clear plan of what you do and do not want for your marketing strategy. Define what kind of marketing experience are you trying to create? Take actions that you feel will best execute your ideas, and even if they don’t work, it’s OK. Surround yourself with entrepreneurs who are marketing you trust and respect. This group of individuals will encourage you to create the type of marketing you want.

You don’t have to do

The digital world is a prominent place. There are countless ways to interact with someone. Although it’s better to do something rather than nothing, also remember that you don’t have to do everything possible. Trying to do everything can lead to a feeling of helplessness and can lead to nothing getting done. Pace yourself. Experiment. Realize that you cannot be everywhere and do everything. The best way to overcome this fear is to start small.

Consistency is key.

Be consistent with your marketing efforts. Thrown together strategies don’t produce the best results. Conquer one piece of the puzzle at a time. For example, if you’re marketing on social media, start with one, then once you’ve built your audience, move onto another network. Don’t forget that this takes time, so don’t be discouraged when results are not immediate.

Marketing is an investment.

You should view marketing as an investment rather than a cost. As mentioned, marketing strategies often take time to show results. It could take weeks or even months. Continually measure your results. If your efforts don’t show a sufficient return on investment, then you’ll have to rethink your strategy. Tailor your efforts over time to make the most of your marketing strategy and give it time to grow.
