In respect of the Holiday Season, Design Moves would like to recognize the local charities giving back to the community playing a positive role providing excellent services in Broward County, Florida.
One of the local Charities mentioned, not just for the holiday season is the United Way of Broward County. They are an excellent organization for giving back to the community. Many organizations focus on one cause, but United Way looks at the city as a whole and through a collaborative effort creating a variety of solutions. United Way of Broward County develops programs delivering measurable results. Through a collaborative approach, the best people, ideas, talents, and resources are brought together to tackle complex challenges head-on and create long-lasting positive changes in Broward County. For more than 75 years, United Way of Broward County has invested more than half a billion dollars into the community.
The Toys for Tots program mission is to collect new, unwrapped toys during the winter months each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community. Toys for Tots helps children all over the United States experience the joyous day of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources – our children; to unite all members of local communities. The program has over 97% of your donations that go into providing toys, books, and other gifts to less fortunate children. Less than 3% is spent on fundraising and overhead costs. They have plenty of sponsors that contribute to helping the program give back to name a few: ToysRus, Hallmark, Hess, The UPS Store and Disney. Many of these brands and more also donate a percentage of funds to Toys For Tots.
Toys for Tots is not just about toys the funds are also collected to purchase quality children’s books, which together with other donated new books, allowed the foundation to distribute over 1.5 million books to less fortunate children and schools located in less-fortunate areas.
Feeding South Florida is a beautiful program reaching all three tri-countries from Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe. They are one of the most efficient food banks in the community. 98% of all the donations go into the program, and for every $1 donated, they can provide six meals. Feeding American food banks in the state of Florida, serving all 67 counties. They have over 400 non-profit partner agencies and give back all-year-round.
Through direct-service programs and a network of nonprofit partner agencies, including soup kitchens, food pantries, homeless shelters, and daycares, Feeding South Florida rescues 44 million pounds of food per year, as well as leads hunger and poverty advocacy efforts as well as providing innovative programming & education.
